This kitchen had to be designed with careful consideration to the low ceilings that pre-existed in the small New Forest cottage. The sympathetic design kept all the storage and ovens at a low level so that tall housings were not going to dominate as the room is open to a cosy seating area by a wood burner and a dining space. The only units fitted to the wall are the two glass-fronted ones which compliment the windows.
The worktops are Ma White quartz by Quartzforms chosen by the client for being so hard wearing! The worktop has small flecks of greys and browns to the white background. This worktop is great with water and easy to keep looking like the day they were fitted.
Herbert William also supplied the Moduleo flooring. A wood effect floor but commercial grade heavy duty vinyl strips that are excellent for cleaning and durability, with the look of wood with far less risk of distress from years of use.
The Kitchen design was thought about at a very early stage in this particular project and the recess for the American fridge freezer was created. The footprint was stolen from the large utility room in order that this massive industrial refrigeration facility did not again dominate. It is quietly tucked away but offers a great amount of fridge and freezer storage with both ice and water.
In this kitchen the ovens are Miele. A steam combination oven and a ‘dirty’ oven. Our client is seriously enthusiastic about the combination steam and says it has changed her eating habits and culinary offerings. The dirty oven has a pyrolytic clean function and something the client stated ‘I would never be without ever again’.
The extractor pops up out of the worktop. It is by Falmec and is of a very slim design so that the drawers under the hob are all useable pan storage space. The extractor has a zeolite filter system that cleans the air before re-circulating it back into the room with no fuss.
This was the first time the client has used induction and is now converted from a gas fan! Before there was nothing like cooking with a flame, you knew where you were. But, Induction is SO controllable but yet it is just ‘wipe clean’ so so easy. The client commented “When I think back to how I had to strip my gas hob of all the supports, metal discs on the burners etc… I now have far more time to enjoy cooking in my new fantastic state of the art oven!”
It was decided not to have seating at the island, the seating of the small cosy area is so close to the Kitchen that the client can keep an eye on her little 4 year old and be in the room with her whilst preparing her dinner or lunch box.
