Custom Coloured Mackintosh Kitchen Design was recently completed by one of our in house designers from Herbert William. This project was unique as the the client chose traditional Mackintosh Manor House cabinets in Ivory but wanted the Island centre piece to match their feature wall. The client had fallen in love with a particular colour of Farrow and Ball paint: Down pipe Grey. This dark lead grey, has definite blue undertones and can create a dramatic finish. So we had the island unit custom sprayed, including the open bookshelf on the end of the island unit.
The client was delighted with the bespoke finish and selected a mixture of down lights and pendants to light up the custom kitchen. Nef appliances and an Induction hob were chosen with the larger appliances were hidden behind sliding doors. This helped, along with pop up sockets to keep the continuous traditional feel.
The client opted for a luxurious caple sink to complete the look and is delighted with the completed design.

Having approached a few kitchen designers we selected HW because they not only had excellent creative design concepts but were willing to properly work with us in the design process as we wanted to have a strong influence. They even joined us when researching worktops at wholesale suppliers in London. In addition, HW consider the practical implications of the project throughout and influence the proposed design decisions resulting in an efficient delivery. The project did not exceed the original budget. What a good recommendation. We worked with Alice for over a year from initial design until the final door knob was fitted and the post installation aftercare visit. We had a myriad of revisions and questions prior to the final design and Alice could not have been more helpful, patient and accommodating. The reason we selected her over two other designers was the manner in which she made us question our intent, provided workable solutions for the difficult nature of some parts of our kitchen and understood why we chose an alternative worktop supplier to their normal installer - we chose a very specific coloured piece of granite that they were not able to supply. However, it was their granite in Herbert William’s show kitchen that made us look for a more interesting, textured piece in the first place. Alice's knowledge and vision of what can be achieved was excellent in our opinion. With regard to the installation, we benefitted from an absolute genius of an installer. Every other tradesman involved in our build and kitchen has commented on the quality of Ryan’s workmanship. He is an outstanding joiner and installer. And a really pleasant bloke. We have included a double door larder with shelves, drawers and electricity supply - thoroughly recommend it. And if you have enough stone left over, have the worktop installers fit a cold self in the larder, like a traditional walk-in larder should have. We’re very happy with the quality of all the products. Finally, we chose Miele appliances at Alice’s recommendation. On the whole, we’re delighted with them. If you’re considering Miele, go to the Miele Experience workshops for cooking lessons and to understand the full capability of what you are buying. An oven is so much more than an oven these days! Our one regret is that two of our appliances don’t link to our phones. Before the build, we didn’t view this as a requirement. But when you have something on all the other appliances, it becomes a real gap. The main issue is the dishwasher, where we chose the same model we had previously as a stand alone appliance but now as an integrated washer. It doesn’t display the time left on the programme on the door or floor so the only way of finding out how long is left is to open the door mid wash, which is irritating. But this is not a failure on Herbert William’s part, we didn’t check the spec in sufficient detail. Use Herbert William, in our experience you are likely to be delighted with your new kitchen.
